Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA) – Riau Islands Province is among the pioneers in the development of the national halal value chain ecosystem, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said at the 2024 Riau Islands Ramadan (KURMA) Fair on Friday.

This is evident from the Bintan Inti Halal Hub in Bintan district, which exports halal products, such as coconuts, to several countries in the world, he added.

“Facilitation and curation of halal products of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are actively carried out in Riau Islands,” Amin noted here on Friday.

He pointed out that the sharia financial sector is also helping MSMEs in the province to upgrade, especially through the Riau Kepri Syariah Regional Development Bank (BPD).

In addition, the province is working to transform conventional co-operatives into sharia-based co-operatives.

According to VP Amin, Riau Islands’ transformation road map is a pilot for a more inclusive and sustainable economic transformation that is in line with sharia principles.

“By focusing on the industrialization of export-oriented halal products and the development of Muslim-friendly tourism, I believe that the halal economy can be a game changer and accelerator in Riau Islands’ economic transformation,” he said.

The halal industry is one of the important elements in global economic development, Amin added.

He said that the halal sector is not only for Muslim-majority countries, but also for Muslim minority countries such as South Korea, which has been promoting halal food development and export since 2015.

In Indonesia, he said, the halal industry development is rooted in the country’s great potential and aspiration to become a global halal producer.

The government has made the halal industry a part of inclusive and sustainable economic transformation, and it is continuing to align the industry with medium- and long-term development planning.
