The Ministry of Health and Prevention in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made the influenza vaccine mandatory for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims. According to the details, the ministry has made it compulsory for all pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Hajj rituals to receive all necessary vaccinations, especially for influenza, before their journey to safeguard the health and well-being of all pilgrims, their families, and the wider community from infectious diseases.

Travelers are advised to visit health centers well in advance, especially if they have chronic illnesses, to receive the required vaccinations. The vaccinations are available at government health centers and private hospitals to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Key guidelines outlined by the Ministry include ensuring vaccinations are administered at least ten days before travel, consulting a physician for individuals with chronic conditions, and adhering to all necessary immunizations. Those who have already received the influenza vaccine within the past year are exempt from obtaining a new vaccination, and approved vaccination cards can be obtained through the Al Hosn application.

Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rend, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Sector, stated that the influenza vaccination was important for the health and safety of Haj and Umrah travelers, especially for high-risk individuals such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases. He emphasized the coordination efforts among state institutions to ensure the well-being of pilgrims and protect them from health risks during their journey.

High-risk individuals, including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic conditions, are strongly advised to receive the pneumococcal vaccine before traveling, which is also recommended for younger adults with specific health conditions that may put them at higher risk of flu-related complications.
