PETALING JAYA: There must be firmer action taken by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in dealing with DAP for meddling in matters relating to Islam, said Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The PAS deputy president said this was not the first time DAP was making statements related to Islam.

“While Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham has apologised over his proposal that non-Muslims be involved in the special committee to study the competence of the state assembly in enacting Islamic laws, the fact remains that DAP was showing its ‘fangs’ time and again, said Tuan Ibrahim on Facebook on Sunday (Dec 31).

He said earlier Ngeh had spoken in Parliament regarding marriages between Muslims and non-Muslims outside the country.

“These incidents call for the Prime Minister to take a tougher stand against DAP by reprimanding them or is the 3R issue on race, religion and royalty only applicable to the Opposition and not the ruling coalition,” questioned Tuan Ibrahim.

Ngeh created a furore with his suggestion which invited brickbats from the Opposition party and Umno.

DAP however distanced itself, with its secretary-general Anthony Loke issuing an apology saying the statement was an oversight by Ngeh.

Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah issued a statement saying the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) held the trust and responsibility to handle all matters on Islam.

He urged politicians, especially non-Muslims to refrain from meddling in Islamic matters.

Meanwhile, Anwar said he fully supports the decree issued by the Sultan who reminded the people, especially non-Muslims to respect and not interfere in matters relating to Islam in the country and asked non-Muslims to write to the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) if they have any concerns.

Ngeh, on Saturday (Dec 30) had apologised and retracted his earlier statement calling for non-Muslims to be included in a special committee formed by the Federal Government to study the Syariah law, saying it was not his intention to interfere in the management of Islamic affairs.

He added that he had initially thought that the government was seeking proposals to amend the Federal Constitution.
