MVR 4.4 million received as Zakat Al-Fitr within first 20 days of Ramadan

A total of MVR 4.4 million was received in Zakat Al-Fitr payments within the first 20 days of the concluding fasting month of Ramadan.

The Maldives Zakat House revealed that a total of MVR 4,499,433 was received in Zakat Al-Fitr within the first 20 days of Ramadan 1445.

As such, a total of 63,389 individuals had paid Fitr Zakat in normal rice, amounting to MVR 760,668.

3,028 individuals paid Zakat in Thailand-imported white rice, amounting to MVR 211,960.

Further, 740 individuals paid in red rice, amounting to MVR 59,200, 14,567 individuals paid in normal basmati rice which amounted to MVR 101,900 and 9,489 paid in premium quality basmati rice, totaling MVR 948,900.

5,984 individuals are to have paid Zakat in normal flour amounting to MVR 59,840 and 1,224 individuals paid Zakat in atta flour, totaling MVR 91,800.

On Wednesday, the Maldives Zakat House announced the deadlines for Zakat Al-Fitr payments.

Multiple platforms have been made accessible to pay Zakat Al-Fitr online, and arrangements have also been made to accept Zakat-Al-Fitr at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs hall, for those who are not willing to make online payments.

According to the Maldives Zakat House, Zakat Al-Fitr payments will be accepted on platforms other than the Bandeyri Pay, through 11:59pm on April 6.

The deadline to make Zakat Al-Fitr payments on Bandeyri Pay is set at 6pm, on the last day of Ramadan 1445.

Further, individuals who wish to visit the hall at the Islamic ministry to make their Zakat Al-Fitr payments, may do so before 2pm on the last day of Ramadan.

Staple food will be accepted as Zakat Al-Fitr before 6pm, the last day of the fasting month.

A total of 38,681 individuals had paid Zakat Al-Fitr within the first 18 days of Ramadan, which began on 11 March 2024.

In April 2023, the Islamic ministry revealed that they had received MVR nine million as Zakat Al-Fitr that year. A total of 175,485 people paid zakat during Ramadan 1444.
